Welcome to the Office of Academic Planning and Programme Development
The office facilitates university-wide undergraduate and graduate degree programme review, development and refinement in the academic affairs. Curriculum development includes the process for approving new courses and revising existing courses; providing administrative support for the development of new academic degree programs, revision of existing programmes and discontinuance of obsolete programmes.
Academic planning encompasses planning and approval for new academic programmes (degrees, majors and certificates), substantial changes to those programmes (renaming, mergers, suspending admissions, discontinuations), planning and approval for academic departments and centres/institutes, and changes associated with Subjects and courses.
Planning and approvals take place in the context of faculty policy and under the auspices of the University Academic Planning Council, the Ad Hoc Interdivisional Curriculum Committee, and, if relevant, wider policy such as Faculty Policies and Procedures, accreditation requirements, national regulation and legislation.
Finally, academic planning encompasses working with faculty governance on the development of policies that support academic planning processes.
Establishing or Restructuring Subject Listings
Proposals to establish new Subject listings, or to reorganize or discontinue Subject listings typically are approved by the program faculty, at the school/college level by the Academic Planning Council or curriculum committee, and subsequently at the University Academic Council. Deans forward proposals to the Director Academic Planing, who presents the proposal to the University Academic Planning Council. This process assures that changes in Subject listings are consistent with the purpose of the Schedule of Classes – to support enrolment by students – and will insure that all appropriate campus offices are notified of the change.
It’s the responsibility of this office to assure that new and revised academic programmes are in compliance with the rules and regulations of Somali International University.
