Through qualified academic, administrative and technical staff, modern learning technology and international standards for open education and total quality, the Deanship delivers SIU degree programmes online and meets the needs of the labour market locally and regionally, committed to professional ethics.

Our Goals
The Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education takes pride in opening SIU's degree programmes to learners who cannot attend classes on campus: working professionals, parents, public servants, learners outside Mogadishu and members of the diaspora. Our programmes use the same curriculum and the same academic standards as the on-campus degrees, so an online graduate earns the same SIU award as a classroom graduate.
Our team of academics, instructional designers and technical staff works to deliver structured, well-supported online study through virtual classes, recorded lectures, the e-learning portal and regular contact with lecturers. We offer six programmes: business administration, public administration, politics and international relations, security studies and criminology, geography and history, and Shari'ah and law.
We work to provide a supportive learning environment in which online students are encouraged to take part, ask questions, collaborate with classmates and complete their studies with confidence. We also look for partnerships with electronic and open universities, government institutions and employers to widen opportunities for our learners and graduates.
As a Deanship, we look forward to working closely with our students, faculties and partners to expand access to quality higher education across Somalia and the region.

About the Deanship and How It Is Managed
The Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education is a dedicated academic unit of Somali International University with its own Dean and administrative team. It is responsible for online admission and registration, the e-learning platform and technical support, online class scheduling, online assessment arrangements, and learner support. The academic content of every programme remains the responsibility of the owning faculty, so the curriculum stays the same as on campus.

How Online Learning Works at SIU
Virtual classes
Learners join live, scheduled lectures and discussions with their lecturers and classmates.
Recorded lectures and podcasts
Sessions are recorded and uploaded to the e-learning portal so learners can replay them at any time.
E-learning portal (LMS)
Learners access course materials, assignments, quizzes, announcements and grades in one place.
Assessment
Learners complete assignments, group projects, presentations, quizzes and examinations in line with SIU academic regulations.
Learner support
The Deanship helps with registration, portal access, technical problems and academic questions.
Library and e-resources
Learners can use SIU's digital library and e-books through the portal.
Admission and Registration Requirements
- 1Qualification: Hold a Secondary School Certificate or an equivalent qualification, with the grade set each year.
- 2Online registration: Complete the online application form through the Deanship portal.
- 3Documents: Upload the required documents, then send or deliver the certified originals to the Admission and Registration Office of the Deanship.
- 4Capacity: Admission is according to the capacity set by the University and approved by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education.
- 5Undertaking: Agree to follow the University regulations and instructions in force during the study.
