Student Sports at SIU

Teamwork, Wellbeing, and an Active Campus Life
Somali International University organizes annual sports activities as part of its commitment to promoting student engagement, teamwork, wellbeing, and an active campus life.
Inter-Faculty Sports Competition
One of the university's major sporting traditions is the Inter-Faculty Sports Competition, which brings together students from different faculties to participate in friendly and competitive sporting activities. The program creates an opportunity for students to represent their faculties, strengthen teamwork, build friendships, and develop a strong sense of university community.
The inter-faculty competitions also provide students with a healthy balance between academic life and extracurricular engagement. Through participation in sports, students develop important personal qualities such as discipline, cooperation, leadership, resilience, and mutual respect.

Fresh Students Welcome Sports Activities
In addition to the inter-faculty sports program, SIU also organizes annual sports activities for newly admitted students as part of welcoming them into university life. These activities are designed to help fresh students interact with one another, become familiar with the university environment, and build early connections with the wider SIU student community.
The fresh student sports activities create a friendly and inclusive atmosphere where new students can feel welcomed, develop confidence, and begin their university journey with a stronger sense of belonging. They also provide an informal platform for students from different backgrounds and academic programs to meet and establish new friendships.
