The Faculty of Health Sciences is one of the leading academic units of Somali International University, dedicated to health professions education, applied research and community service. The Faculty brings together four departments — Medical Laboratory Sciences, Public Health, Nursing and Midwifery — under one academic roof, so that students from different disciplines learn side by side, exactly as they will later work side by side in hospitals, laboratories, health centres and community programmes. Teaching combines classroom study with hands-on laboratory work and supervised clinical and field training in partner health facilities, and curricula are reviewed regularly against national accreditation requirements and international good practice.

Our Goals

Goal 01
To graduate health professionals whose knowledge, practical skills and professional conduct meet the needs of the national health system.
Goal 02
To deliver academic programmes that satisfy national quality assurance and accreditation standards and align with regional and international benchmarks.
Goal 03
To provide a well-equipped learning environment — laboratories, skills rooms, library and digital resources — that supports competency-based education.
Goal 04
To build and sustain partnerships with hospitals, health centres, laboratories, the Ministry of Health and non-governmental and international health organisations for student training and joint service delivery.
Goal 05
To develop applied health research that addresses local priorities such as communicable disease, maternal and child health, nutrition, and health system strengthening.

To contribute to community health through outreach campaigns, screening activities, health education and continuing professional development for practising staff.

Welcome to the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Choosing a career in health is a decision to serve people at the moments when they most need care and competence. Our task at this Faculty is to make sure that when that moment comes, our graduates are ready — technically skilled, ethically grounded and confident in their judgement.
We work towards that in three ways. First, through curricula that are built around what health professionals actually do, so that classroom learning is continually tested against practice. Second, through training in real settings — our laboratories, skills rooms and partner health facilities — where students carry responsibility under supervision from their earliest years. Third, through a teaching team that keeps one foot in professional practice and brings current problems into the lecture room.
Our four departments — Medical Laboratory Sciences, Public Health, Nursing and Midwifery — cover a large part of the health workforce a functioning system requires: the people who produce the diagnosis, the people who prevent illness at population level, the people who deliver continuous care, and the people who accompany mothers and newborns safely through birth.

Department of Medical Laboratory Science
Prepares laboratory scientists who produce the accurate diagnostic results on which clinical decisions depend, covering clinical chemistry, haematology, microbiology, parasitology, immunology, histopathology and blood banking, with strong emphasis on quality control and laboratory safety.
